‘Downtown D.C. is lousy with people who give a sh*t about fracking’

Truer words may never have been spoken.

Anti-fracking Video Link

Highlights:

Chant: “The water! The water! The water’s on fire! We don’t need no fracking, let the corporations burn!”

Chant: “Hey frackers! Get off it! The people over profits!”

“With this weather, that smelly hippies thing may not be far from the truth.”

I hope they had that A/C cranking at home so they could cool off when they got home.

Poor little soft-headed geeks. They’re opposed to fracking in Delaware and Idaho, of all places.

The narrator says he got a call from an OfA fundraiser during a field visit to PA to see “fracking wells” and “compressor tanks”. He was excited about the opportunity to share his feelings on Obama’s energy policy with the caller a report from anti-fracking ground zero. “The fundraiser just went through his talking points as if I hadn’t said anything, but I had fun.” Hahaha, do tell. Speaking truth to power, or more accurately, to some other brainwashed zombie. Call somebody who gives a sh*t, bud.

At the end of the march, a bunch of protesters jump in a public fountain, “a fitting end…” etc. Should have been reviewed for a violation of the Clean Water Act.

Daily NK – North Ramps Up Revolutionary Statue Guard

http://www.dailynk.com/english/read.php?cataId=nk01500&num=9591

“As they continue to criticize South Korea for its alleged role in the recent ‘Statue Demolition Society’ incident, the North Korean authorities have moved to step up patrols around Kim Il Sung statues and other key ‘revolutionary historical sites’, nominally in order to try and foil any possible attack. …

“The orders instruct that the patrols must focus on Kim Il Sung Statues, Kim Il Sung Revolutionary History Museums, the Towers of Eternal Life that exist in every neighborhood and Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il Revolutionary Ideology Research Institutes. It commands that patrol frequency be doubled, that one-man patrols become two-man, and that night patrols be extended through the day. It adds that towers and study rooms in factory enterprises should be guarded from 7PM to 7AM.

“The aim of the exercise, as the weight of recent propaganda across all North Korea’s domestic media reflects, is to enhance the feeling of being under attack, and through that to generate internal solidarity. …

“In a connected story, there is a rumor circulating that Jeon Young Chul, the man who stands accused of re-entering North Korea after defection so as to commit the so-called ‘statue terrorism’, is to be executed.

“The rumor, which is moving not just between the people but also among members of the security forces, is that the execution will be public.”

Obama to Super Bowl Champs: ‘You Didn’t Build That’

No, of course he didn’t say that. But what if he had? And why is it any less appropriate to tell a sports hero that than a small business owner?

Imagine for a moment an alternate universe where the President talked smack to the Giants …

“..Look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own.”

Or, “I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so [talented]. There are a lot of [talented] people out there.”

Or, “It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.”

Or, “If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher [or coach] somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges [and stadiums]. If you’ve got a [championship] — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

No, he didn’t tell the Giants that because it would have been rude and ungracious. He didn’t tell them that because they are heroes.

Daily NK – The Why of Ri at Rungra Resort

http://www.dailynk.com/english/read.php?cataId=nk00400&num=9587

“However, the regime is now facing a different situation, and the move is part of work to make Kim Jong Eun appear old and wise enough to rule. While part of the Party propaganda strategy focuses on Kim’s modernity derived from youth, there is another aspect that focuses on him appearing mature enough to govern. Marriage serves this element well.

“Sources in Seoul believe that Ri started out as a musician with groups including one run by the Ministry of People’s Safety, before marrying Kim Jong Eun and undergoing a six month program of ‘first lady training’ under professors from Kim Il Sung University and government officials.

“Although nothing about her career or details such as when she married Kim Jong Eun has been made public inside North Korea, now that she has been very publicly revealed as the supreme leader’s wife it is certain that efforts to idolize her will also slowly gather pace.

“This is likely to require creativity, however, since her career as a musician is insufficient for a revolutionary leader’s spouse. Kim Jong Eun’s mother Koh Young Hee was a former dancer with the Mansudae Art Troupe, but this information was deliberately struck from the public record and she was portrayed as a strong woman supporting the people’s leader, Kim Jong Il.”

Olympics #Fail: N. Korean women’s soccer player introduced under S. Korean flag. #Hilarityensues

GLASGOW, Scotland [via HuffPo] — London Olympic organizers mistakenly displayed the South Korean flag on a jumbo screen instead of North Korea’s before a women’s soccer match Wednesday, prompting the North Koreans to refuse to take the field for nearly an hour.

The flag flap began during player introductions when a North Korean player was introduced along with a shot of the South Korean flag.

The match against Colombia was delayed for more than an hour, and organizers apologized for the error.

"Today ahead of the women’s football match at Hampden Park, the South Korean flag was shown on a big screen video package instead of the North Korean flag. Clearly that is a mistake," organizers said. "We will apologize to the team and the National Olympic Committee and steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again."

The statement, however, included another gaffe: It failed to refer to the countries by their official Olympic names, causing organizers to reissue the statement using "Republic of Korea" and "Democratic People’s Republic of Korea."

Happy Golden Wedding Bells, Mr and Mrs Kim Jong-Un! #dprk #rsrh #abdicate

North Korea leader Kim Jong-un married to Ri Sol-ju

Ms Ri is thought to be the same "mystery woman" who accompanied Mr Kim to several events in recent weeks and whose Western dress and hairstyle led some to speculate on the influence of Mr Kim’s brief European education.

The woman was spotted with him at a concert featuring Disney characters and at a ceremony to mark the 18th anniversary of the death of Kim Il-sung, Mr Kim’s grandfather. …

Ms Ri is believed to have married Mr Kim in 2009 and given birth to a child the following year, analyst Cheong Seong-chang told the South Korean Korea Times newspaper.

"The late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il arranged his youngest son’s marriage in a hurry after suffering a stroke in 2008," Mr Cheong said.

Ms Ri studied science and is from an upper-class family, her father being a professor and her mother an obstetrician, he added.

Former OK state Sen. Gene Stipe dead at 85 | Tulsa World

How can you write an article about a man who served 53 years in the legislature and not name the party?

Stipe was an old time corruptocrat whose empire extended over most of SE Oklahoma, a/k/a Little Dixie. An abstractor by trade, he somehow ended up with an interest in just about every well in eastern OK.

http://www.tulsaworld.com/site/printerfriendlystory.aspx?articleid=20120721_12_0_McALES695482

“Known as the dean of state lawmakers, Stipe had little competition for the unofficial title during his last two decades. By the time he left in 2003, he had won more than 25 elections and served 53 years in the Oklahoma Legislature — a record that still stands.

“Stipe’s political career was derailed by a federal investigation into allegations that he funneled illegal money into the unsuccessful 1998 congressional campaign of his one-time political protegee Walt Roberts.

“Pleading guilty for both his leading role in the scheme and lying to federal investigators about his involvement, Stipe resigned from the state Senate in 2003 and gave up his law license.

“His health failing, the then-77-year-old was sentenced to six months of home detention, five years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service. He was also fined $735,567 — the maximum allowed and three times the amount of money that Stipe admitted providing in illegal campaign money.

“In 2007, Stipe was again indicted, this time with his brother Francis Stipe, by a federal grand jury as part of an investigation into political corruption in southeastern Oklahoma.”
